The sun is shining over the Cothi Valley and we can’t believe that the Big Cwtch 2019 is almost upon us. With just a few days to go before we open our gates to you lovely Cwtchers, we’ve compiled all we have to offer right here for you, to make sure you don’t miss out on anything in our jam packed schedule!
The Big Cwtch is all about showcasing amazing local talent both on and off stage. This year is absolutely no exception. Notable mentions include our Friday night headliners, indie-rock quartet ‘Luna Bay’, whose catchy tunes will no doubt have you up and dancing before the night is out! Cardiff Battle of the Bands competition winners, six-piece ‘Year of the Dog’ will be blasting their original concoction of ska, funk, soul, reggae and swing on the Saturday night, ready to wow you with their raw energy and an unforgettable sound. These are just two of the myriad of incredible sounds you’ll be hearing over the weekend.
In addition to our main lakeside stage, you can also catch some great tunes in our idyllic Walled Garden, on our Lunar Stage. Check out our music page to learn more about all our incredible artists! If you fancy getting on stage yourself, you’re in luck! Whether you’re an enthusiastic shower singer or karaoke queen, make sure you sign up to take part in our first ever Cwtch Choir! In this inclusive session led by music therapist Jo Humphreys, you’ll be singing our chosen festival anthem “With a Little Help from my Friends” by the Beatles, and even get the chance to sing on our main lakeside stage on Saturday afternoon!
Our beautiful lakeside location is the perfect setting to spend a weekend in the sun, listening to local music and savouring the best street food that Wales has to offer.
Our celebrated Street Food Alley is once again bursting at the seams with award winning street food traders, showcasing seasonal, sustainable and above all delicious dishes that take inspiration from all over the world. Whether you want cheesy loaded nachos, hand-rolled tortillas, fresh and seasonal risotto, we’ll definitely have something that will be right up your alley! If you haven’t already checked it out, head over to our Street Food Blog, where we caught up with our street food traders to find out what kind of tantalising treats they have on offer for you!
Almost everything at the Cwtch is lovingly handcrafted to make sure you have the best festival experience. Our bars are no exception. Once again we will be serving from our Wonky Table Bar, where you can sip your pint with a view over the lakeside stage, our Après Ski Bar, where you can enjoy an authentic Alpine experience, and our Box of Frogs gin bar, perched on the lakeside and filled to the brim with, not frogs, but handcrafted artisan gin.
High quality and bursting with flavour, Jin Talog is truly a gin for gin lovers. The Jin Talog guys are so proud of their product that they’re even coming along to showcase it! Jin Talog will be holding two exclusive talks at our Cwtch Corner, where you can learn about the ‘Jin Talog Story’, meet these talented artisan gin-makers and sample some of their incredible gin! Make sure to book these talks here as they’re selling out fast! For a taster, check out the interview we held with them earlier this month!
For the sports lovers among us, the Après Ski Bar is the place to be on Saturday! This year we’ll be expanding our sports prowess to include not only skiing but also rugby! We’ll be screening the Wales vs. Ireland game on Saturday, with kick off at 14:30! In addition, you have the chance to listen to a pre-match talk by the wonderful Julian Lewis James, who’s taken time out of his busy filming schedule to come support us! Book your ticket to a ‘A conversation with Julian Lewis Jones’ held in the ‘Cwtch Corner’ Lakeside Tent here.
Our Cwtch corner truly has something for everyone. In addition to fascinating talks with artisan gin makers local celebrities, we also have two poetry slam sessions with Dominic Williams, as well as an exclusive wine tasting quiz session with our friends at Cheers wine! If you really want to take advantage of our beautiful lake, you can even take part in coracle taster sessions on Saturday morning! For those who are after a bit more relaxation in the water, be sure to check out our beautiful hot tub, nestled between the Cwtch Corner and the lake, with a fantastic view of the lakeside stage.
Of course, we couldn’t be the ultimate feel-good festival without a selection of relaxing wellbeing activities to choose from! Our Big Cwtch Sanctuary is a relaxing space to engage both body and mind. Sponsored by Case Management Cymru, we are offering holistic treatments, festival pampering, dance and even yoga! We haven’t forgotten the kids either! Our festival is truly inclusive, and when we said jam-packed we really mean jam-packed! You can find all our family-friendly activities in our previous ‘family-friendly activities galore’ blog post! In addition to laser tag, stand-up paddle boarding and circuis skills, we’ve also got a range of crafts on offer! The craft bus is back with pottery, willow work, hot box forging, candle making, weaving and so much more!
The Big Cwtch is so proud to support our headline charity Ski4All Wales. They work tirelessly to ensure access for all on the slopes through running adaptive skiing sessions both at home in the Pembrey Ski Centre as well as abroad with their yearly trips to Verbier in Switzerland. The funds we raise at the Cwtch go towards raising awareness and purchasing essential equipment for the club, and this year they’ll be showcasing their brand new adaptive Sit Ski! Come along to our dedicated Ski4All tent to learn about the amazing work they do, take part in a ski-themed treasure hunt and even have a go on the Sit Ski!
In addition, our car park charity this year will be the Roy Castle Lung Foundation. All funds from our car park donation box will be sent directly to this great organisation, working to help people live well and live longer with lung cancer.
A weekend jam-packed with activities for the entire family to enjoy! Big Cwtch HQ cannot wait to welcome you all through our gates on Friday 30th August through to Sunday morning. Make sure you grab your tickets while you can, because this year is truly shaping up to be the best Cwtch yet!
